Third time’s the charm, am I right? LG and Google have today announced the successor to the ever so popular Nexus 5, the Nexus 5X.
One of the first devices shipping with Android 6.0 (Dubbed Android Marshmallow), the Nexus 5X has a 5.2” Full HD (1920×1080) IPS LCD display with 424ppi. Under the hood, you’ll find a 2.0GHZ hexa-core Snapdragon 808 (Chosen probably for its better power management) coupled with, get this, 2GB of ram. 2GB should be powerful enough to keep the device chugging along with most everyday tasks, but some users might not be happy with Google’s decision to not go with 3GB. The Adreno 418 GPU should also keep gamers satisfied.
As far as storage goes, the Nexus 5X is available in 16GB and 32GB, but being a Google device, comes with Google Drive storage as well.
The cameras have been greatly improved from the previous gen Nexus devices. On the back is a 12.3MP shooter with a 1.55?m sensor and IR assisted Laser autofocus, making for stunning low-light photography (We assume, test results in our full review). The front facing “Selfie camera” comes in at 5 megapixels, also great with low-light photography. The Nexus 5X also captures video in 4K, which is great!
On the back of the phone, you’ll find a fingerprint sensor, also called “Nexus Imprint”. Google has conveniently added native fingerprint support to Android M. Your fingerprint is one of the most secure ways of getting into your phone, so this feature is well overdue, in my opinion.
The nexus 5X features a reversible USB type-C port, which offers faster charging and data speeds than the traditional Micro USB. Powering the device is a 2700 mah (Non-removable) battery, which should pull through a day of moderate use.
“We are excited to be able to work with Google again on developing Nexus 5X, our best Nexus yet,” said Juno Cho, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications.” This time, we wanted to deliver the best hardware for Google’s most advanced software and we’re very proud of what we’ve accomplished together.”
