SanDisk Extreme 500 Portable SSD Review

Posted by on Dec 15, 2015

Hard Drives (HDD) have come a long way, you probably even have a couple right now all running at the same time to keep all your important files. Portability wise, it has been more compact therefore they are now easier to pack on the go. The Extreme 500 Portable SSD from Sandisk is one them, and yes portable SSD’s are here! SSD’s are ususally used as your computer’s internal storage, but not anymore. Not only will these next generation drives be compact but will also boost the media transfer speed by 4X faster than a standard USB 3.0 hard drive. The packaging is simple and minimal. You get a tiny booklet, a micro-USB cable and the SSD drive itself. It’s a plug and play drive meaning you don’t need a special driver to run it. Design wise – it is rugged thanks the rubber frame around it that also absorbs impact from drops. It can also handle hot and cold temperatures between -20C to 70C. My only concern is that it is a little flimsy when it comes to overall build...

SanDisk Extreme 500 Portable SSD Review

SanDisk Extreme 500 Portable SSD Review

Dec 15, 2015

My only concern is that it is a little flimsy when it comes to overall build quality but other than that, this little drive is quite special. (Available in 120GB and 240GB size) It weighs less than 80g and only 1cm in thickness. It’s so slim that you can just put it in your pocket. Oh, there’s a metal ring, too, to clip it into your bag. When it comes to performance, it all depends on your machine. I am currently using a 5 year old HP laptop with Intel Core i7 processor (Ivy), 12 GB RAM and GT650M 2GB graphics. I have used CrystalDiskMark to benchmark the drive and also did a real file transfer for real world usage test. The drive was hooked up to a USB 3.0 port and the results are below. If you are a videographer (or photographer) like myself that does a lot of quick back ups then this is a must have addition to your gear. Especially if you do 4K videos where you need the speed in order to get the work done quicker. As for security the drive supports 128-bit AES encryption to protect your files, that’s available using the SanDisk...

The ASUS GX700- Insanely good or just insane?

The ASUS GX700- Insanely good or just insane?

Sep 5, 2015

Asus unveiled quite a lot of interesting stuff at IFA this year, but the one product that definitely caught everyone’s eye is this one. The GX700 gaming laptop. The world’s first 17″ gaming laptop with Water cooling. Now you might ask (Even I did, when I first saw this) “A laptop with WATER COOLING? HOW? JUST HOW?”. Well, you see that bulky attachment over there? That contains a radiator, reservoir and the pump. You can do some serious overclocking with the K-series skylake processor Asus has put in there (K-series skylake processors come unlocked, and can be overclocked pretty easily), and get little to no heating issues whatsoever. Asus is yet to announce the exact GPU, but it’s an Nvidia GEForce. Obviously, it’s bulkier than other gaming laptops, considering the water cooling and all, but you’ll be able to squeeze way more performance out of this than, say, an Alienware with the same specs. The laptop can be used without an attachment though, which is a boon to students who just want to type and browse with it in school/college. When you’re doing serious overclocking, especially in the tight confines of a laptop body, pushing air over your components using fans just doesn’t cut it. Water cooling systems run tubes of cold water through your PC, taking heat away. Water cooling is quieter and more effective, but you’ll be paying more for it. We’ll be updating this article when we get more info about the laptop itself, but in the meantime, check out The Verge’s hands on...
